Bihar assembly election: EC seeks report on murder of Jan Suraaj Party supporter in Mokama

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday sought a detailed report from the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the murder of Dularchand Yadav in Mokama, PTI reported.

Dularchand Yadav was killed during firing between the two sides while campaigning for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in Mokama yesterday.

CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Friday exuded confidence about the victory of JMM candidate Somesh Chandra Soren by a large margin in the Ghatshila by-poll scheduled for November 11.

"BJP will face a crushing defeat in Ghatsila and the JMM candidate will win by a large margin, and all INDIA bloc alliance partners are strongly supporting the JMM candidate in Ghatshila," said Bhattacharya.

Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda on Friday launched a scathing attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal and said that he had personally witnessed kidnapping and ransom flourishing in Bihar under the rule of former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi.

“Nitish Kumar is driving Bihar's development at full speed, don't let this momentum break. I personally witnessed the terror of Shahabuddin during the jungle raj under the RJD. He was an MLA and MP from the RJD. He used to sit near Lalu Prasad Yadav,” Nadda said

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday questioned the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the promise of one crore jobs in Bihar, asking, "Where are the jobs they promised in the last elections.

"Remember when the first manifesto was released in Goa? They said they would build new cities, smart cities. Tell me what the situation is today. These 1 crore jobs, which they are going to provide in Bihar. They had promised two crore jobs before that. Where are those jobs? They had promised to double farmers' income. Where is the doubling of farmers' income?" he said.

RJD MLA Bhai Virendra launched a sharp attack on the NDA’s joint poll manifesto for the upcoming Bihar elections, accusing the alliance of aiming to “plunder the country, ruin farmers and labourers, and snatch food from people’s mouths.”

“Their manifesto must have stated that they want to plunder the country, ruin the farmers and labourers, and snatch away the food from people's mouths. What else can happen?. The people of our country know that the NDA people are 'jumblebaaz' (schemers) and that they can do nothing,” Virendra said.

BJP President J P Nadda's election rally in Bihar's Buxar district was cancelled on Friday due to bad weather, a party leader said.

Talking to PTI, BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, "The rally of JP Nadda in Buxar district was cancelled due to rains and bad weather."

Nadda was scheduled to address an election rally in Buxar on Friday at noon.

With the Bihar assembly election due in just six days, the Phulwari constituency under the Patna district is set to witness a battle of familiar faces.

With the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation seeking to retain the seat it won in 2020, the Janata Dal (United) has fielded a former minister who represented the constituency in 2015 and 2010.

While the CPI(ML) is banking on sitting MLA Gopal Ravidas, the JD(U) has brought back Shyam Rajak to wrest control of the constituency back.

Reacting to the NDA’s joint poll manifesto for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal dismissed exaggerated job promises by rival parties, saying that “those who claim one in four people will get a government job do not understand what election manifestos are.”

Emphasising the NDA’s development-focused agenda, Jaiswal said the alliance would deliver on its commitments, including the establishment of new industrial parks, backend hubs, and 100 MSME sector parks to create large-scale employment opportunities for the youth.

Congress leader Pawan Khera stated on Thursday that Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has intensified his campaign across the state, holding a series of rallies to connect with voters in Bihar.

"Our leader is constantly holding rallies ahead of elections. Bihar is prepared for a change. We will form the government," Khera said.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday charged Congress’ Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru with having “insulted” Rajendra Prasad, the country’s first President, by asking him not to attend the inauguration of a renovated Somnath temple. He also alleged that the Congress and its Bihar ally RJD have always been “disrespectful towards our heritage”.

On NDA's joint poll manifesto for Bihar elections, Jan Suraaj's Prashant Kishor said, “Those in power have been given numerous opportunities by the people of Bihar over the past 15-20 years. What they write in their manifestos and resolutions doesn't really matter, because the public is seeing that they say the same thing every time. And the current situation in Bihar. Despite all these resolutions, pledges, and manifestos, it remains the country's poorest and most backward state.”

Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Friday said that the ruling NDA released its manifesto for the Bihar assembly elections in a press conference that lasted only 26 seconds, as they are afraid of facing questions from journalists. Addressing a press conference here, Gehlot termed the NDA’s manifesto a “string of lies”.

The NDA, which released its manifesto for the Bihar assembly polls on Friday, promised that it would develop 'Punaura Dham Janki Mandir', considered the birthplace of Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi district, as a world-class spiritual city. "The NDA, if voted to power again after the assembly polls, will develop the sacred birthplace of Maa Janaki in Sitamarhi into a world-class spiritual city named 'Sitapuram'," the manifesto said.

RJD candidate from Chapra, Khesari Lal Yadav on Friday criticised Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary for his 'nachaniya' (dancer) remark against the Bhojpuri singer. While referring to the Deputy CM as his "elder brother," Yadav urged that such words and statements should not be spoken just to win an election, and special consideration should be made to ensure that younger generations "don't use such words."

Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday said that the NDA will work to transform Bihar into an "industrial hub" in the next five years, if elected to power. "In the next 5 years, we will work to make Bihar an industrial hub," Choudhary told reporters in Patna, soon after the NDA's manifesto was released.

A Jan Suraaj Party worker was shot dead on Thursday following a clash between two groups during election campaigning in Bihar's Mokama area, police said. The deceased is identified as Dularchand Yadav, who was in the convoy when incident happened.

The voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, whereas bye-elections for eight seats across seven states and Union Territories will be held on November 11. The results for both will be declared on November 14.

On NDA's 'Sankalp Patra,' RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha said, "To put it bluntly, it is pressure. We released the manifesto ahead of time. It has an attraction among the people, and they are looking at it with hope. Tejashwi Yadav made a clear commitment... On the jobs front, the record of the PM and his team is zero..."

The NDA, if voted to power, vows to set up a world-class medicity, one medical college in each district, free ration, free treatment worth ₹5 lakh and 50 lakh more pucca houses, according to the 69-page manifesto.

Under the 'Kapurgari Thakur Kisan Samman Nidhi', the farmers will be given an annual benefit of ₹3,000, totaling ₹9,000, as per the manifesto.
