The Indian government will invest ₹4,500 crore over three years to modernize the Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali, scaling production a hundredfold while keeping it government-owned, as announced by IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Established in 1976, SCL is India's only facility for the complete chip-making process, essential for fostering innovation and self-reliance in semiconductor technology.
