Madhya Pradesh man accused of killing mother diagnosed with schizophrenia: Police
The 23-year-old accused was found sitting next to his 56-year-old mother’s body and his family initially claimed she had a fall
A 23-year-old man, who allegedly killed his mother in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul with a sharp-edged weapon after she scolded him on October 9, has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Radheshyam Vatti, the in-charge of Betul’s Bordehi police station, said the accused is undergoing psychiatric treatment in Bhopal. He added that he was found sitting next to his 56-year-old mother’s body and that his family initially claimed she had a fall.
Vatti said the postmortem report showed injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon had caused the death, and the accused confessed to the murder. He added the family tried to protect the 23-year-old, citing his mental health.
The family had told police that the accused had been undergoing treatment for schizophrenia at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal, for the past year and that he had also attempted suicide when he was pursuing MTech at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Betul police superintendent Virendra Jain said the accused has a mental health condition. “We are also confirming his educational qualification.”
