Who was Charlie Kirk? A look at his life and work

Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist, was shot dead in Utah.

He was a close ally of US President Donald Trump.

Kirk often visited the White House and spoke at Trump’s inauguration.

In 2012, at 18, he co-founded Turning Point USA.

Turning Point claims to be the "largest conservative student movement" in the US.

He became famous for open-air campus debates in a “change-my-mind” style.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University (UVU) when he was shot.

Eyewitnesses say he was answering a question about gun violence when he was shot in the neck.
