Nine nominated councillors appointed by the Chandigarh administration have been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana high court over alleged violations of nomination procedures and a lack of character verification or police verification. The plea also alleges that no reservation policy was adopted when nominating the councillors, which violates provisions of the Constitution. The appointments were made in October 2022 and drew criticism from opposition parties who claimed the appointees had strong BJP links.
