Punjabi University has removed Prof Surjit Singh from his position as coordinator of the Five-Year Integrated Programme (FYIP) following complaints of mental harassment against him. The decision came after protests from students' unions and the family of a girl from the university who died at her residence. Prof Singh is currently in hospital after being assaulted by students. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and the district administration and university officials have assured the protesting students that the probe will be completed within 21 days.
