Punjabi University in India has suspended a senior faculty member and a clerk from its distance education department after failing to pay a fee to the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university has suspended admissions to graduate and postgraduate courses for the academic year 2023-24. The department was required to pay the fee before March 31, but missed the deadline. The university's reputation and finances will be impacted as distance education courses are a significant source of revenue. The fate of already enrolled students is also uncertain.
