Sawalkote hydroelectric project over Chenab still running dry on progress
The Indian government is fast-tracking clearances for the stalled 1,856 MW Sawalkote hydroelectric project in Jammu and Kashmir, following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Initially proposed in the 1960s, the project faces procedural, technical, and financial challenges. Although the NHPC has made some progress, it may miss its revised 2032 deadline due to ongoing delays.
