SDO, JE booked for demanding 1.5 lakh bribe in Haryana’s Kaithal

The Kaithal police on Saturday said that a case was registered against the SDO and JE of the electricity department’s Guhla sub-division following orders of the Haryana power minister Anil Vij.

They are accused of demanding 1.5 lakh from a poultry farm owner for providing an electricity connection.

The officials were identified as SDO Rahul Yadav and JE Jaswant Singh Godara, DSP Guhla Kuldeep Singh confirmed.

The complainant Balwinder Singh from Hemu Majra village had appeared before Vij during a grievance committee meeting on October 10, claiming that he applied for a connection for his poultry farm, but couldn’t afford the bribe after objections were raised.

Finding the allegations serious, Vij ordered the suspension of SDO, registration of an FIR and formation of a committee under the chairmanship of the additional deputy commissioner to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report.

DSP Singh said following the complaint, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation was underway.
