CM Yogi calls for zero tolerance against cyber crime, conversion rackets
Addressing the concluding session of the two-day ‘Police Manthan—Senior Police Officers’ Conference 2025’, Adityanath emphasised zero tolerance and directed the police to maintain constant and strict surveillance of social media platforms to curb misinformation, deepfake content, dark web activities and cyber offences that threaten social harmony.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday issued a slew of directives to senior police officials to further strengthen law and order in Uttar Pradesh, calling for stern action against cyber crime, misuse of social media, religious conversion rackets, terrorism and organised crime.
He said any attempt to disturb law and order or incite religious or caste-based discord through social media must invite immediate and stringent legal action.
Highlighting the growing threat of internationally funded religious conversion rackets, the chief minister instructed the police to extensively use artificial intelligence (AI), financial trail analysis and advanced technical tools to dismantle such networks at their roots. Referring to recent incidents, including the Balrampur case, he said these activities point to a well-organised conspiracy that must be neutralised at an early stage through strong intelligence inputs and technological monitoring.
Expressing concern over the misuse of the names of national icons and revered figures by anti-social elements to form new organisations and spread unrest, Adityanath directed the police to thoroughly investigate the background of such groups and take firm action to dismantle their networks.
On national security, the chief minister asked officials to strengthen border surveillance and counter-terror mechanisms, particularly along the Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal borders. He stressed the need to curb cross-border terrorism, narcotics smuggling and other organised crimes through better coordination among intelligence and security agencies and real-time information sharing.
Addressing drug trafficking and organised crime, the CM lauded the police for their ongoing efforts but said operations must become more decisive and impactful to break the morale of criminals. He also called for sustained and focused action against cattle smuggling, emphasising that the police should not stop at arrests alone but identify and act against the masterminds.
Several technical and operational issues were discussed during the conference, including disaster management, civil defence and home guards, large crowd management, intelligence challenges related to social media, NGOs and the Nepal border, and strategies to combat terrorism, narcotics, cattle smuggling and other organised crimes.
Reiterating his commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, Adityanath said the UP Police must remain alert, technologically equipped and proactive to effectively deal with emerging internal and external security challenges.
