This summer holiday, special trains to Sawantwadi, Ajni from Pune
The service will allow thousands of passengers to return to their villages and hometowns during the summer holidays.
Pune: Given the increased demand during the summer, the Central Railway (CR) administration has decided to launch five special trains, two of which will start from the Pune junction. The new route includes a train service from Pune to Sawantwadi Road station and the Pune-Ajni Express. This will allow thousands of passengers to return to their villages and hometowns during the summer holidays.
According to the railways, the Pune-Sawantwadi Express (Train No 01211) will run from April 2 to June 4.
The train will ply from Pune every Sunday at 9.30 pm and will reach its destination at 9.30 the following morning. The return service will be on Wednesdays (Train No 01212) and will see the train depart from Sawantwadi at 10 am and arrive at Pune at 11:55 pm.
From Pune, the train will halt at Lonavala, Kalyan, Panvel, Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adawali, Vilavde, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg and Kudal.
From April 5, another summer special train, the Pune-Ajni Express (Train No 01189), will depart from Pune railway station at 3.15 pm every Wednesday.
The train will arrive at Ajani at 4:50 am the following day. Every Thursday, the return journey from Ajani Station (Train No 01190) will depart at 7:50 pm and arrive at Pune junction at 11.35 am.
From Pune, the train will halt at Daund, Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, Manmad, Bhusawal, Akola, Badnera and Wardha.
Reacting to the development, Kiran Mangaonkar, a frequent traveller to Sawantwadi said, “Every summer holidays, we take our children back to our village near Sawantwadi, and it’s great that the railways have now provided special trains on this route. There is a high volume of traffic on this route, and we cannot afford to travel by private tourist buses.”
