The accused has been identified as Rahul Uttam Talekar, who originally hails from Bhokardan in Jalna district.

According to the police, Talekar allegedly sent a WhatsApp message to Raut and threatened to kill him by using an AK-47 rifle.

The accused allegedly referred to Raut as “anti-Hindu” and asserted that Salman Khan and Raut have both received death threats from Lawrence Bishnoi’s men, according to the first information report (FIR) filed with the Mumbai police. The message also had a reference to Siddhu Moosewala’s murder.

Raut’s brother Sunil Raut has lodged a complaint in the matter with Kanjurmarg police station in Mumbai.

Raut said, “Last night I received a message threatening to kill me. So, I approached Mumbai police and they will take appropriate action.’’

Raut further alleged, “The government is busy in providing security to those who have betrayed them while neglecting the safety of opposition leaders.”

Raut further alleged that the security cover is being removed and threats against their lives are not being taken seriously. Furthermore, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is making fun of such death threats.

Amol Zende, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said, “We got information about the accused from Mumbai police according to which we arrested him on Friday night from a hotel in Kharadi area and handed over him to the Mumbai police for further investigation.’’

Fadnavis, meanwhile, said, “The person threatening Raut has been identified, and primary information has been received that he threatened Sanjay Raut in an inebriated state, a thorough investigation will be done in this matter, and action will be taken.”

Responding to the allegations made by the opposition party leaders, Fadnavis said, “The state government would abide by the law.”
