One call at a time: How DU's Patel Chest Institute is powering a battle against tobacco addiction

In 2024, Delhi University's National Tobacco Quitline registered 94,788 calls, highlighting India's tobacco addiction crisis. Despite a drop in follow-up engagement, 19,253 people successfully quit, showing a 20.31% success rate. The service expanded nationally in 2018, now handling 15,000 calls daily. Counsellors provide proactive support, emphasizing addiction's emotional nature, as tobacco remains prevalent.
