Gangubai Kathiawadi box office collection day 3: Alia Bhatt film collects over ₹39 crore on first weekend

Gangubai Kathiawadi box office collection: The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Alia Bhatt in titular role has garnered over ₹39.12 crore at the box office.

Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt as the titular figure, had a successful first weekend at the box office. The film had registered an opening of ₹10.50 crore and had collected ₹13.32 crore on day two. It showed decent growth on Sunday, collecting around ₹15.30 crore, taking its weekend collections to around ₹39.12 crore. With a positive response at the box office, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is said to have revived the movie theatres in India after the coronavirus pandemic.

Sharing the Sunday collections, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#GangubaiKathiawadi brings cheer, confidence and cinegoers back, solid total in Wknd 1… Day 3 sees big gains [most places]… #Mumbai, #Thane, #Pune, #Gujarat, #Delhi, #SouthIndia [parts] key contributors… Fri 10.50 cr, Sat 13.32 cr, Sun 15.30 cr. Total: ₹39.12 cr. #India biz.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is expected to get a ‘boost' with the Maha Shivratri holiday on Monday. Taran wrote on Twitter, "#GangubaiKathiawadi needs to show healthy trending on Day 4 [Mon]… #MahaShivratri [Day 5; Tue] is expected to boost biz, should hit ₹50 cr on Tue itself… Wed + Thu remains extremely crucial, will decide if it can touch/cross ₹60 cr mark in *Week 1*."

Taran Adarsh also confirmed that the film is performing good overseas as well. Gangubai Kathiawadi revolves around a young woman who was forced into sex trade and eventually became a prominent and celebrated figure in the Kamathipura red-light district of Mumbai. It also stars Ajay Devgn, Vijay Raaz, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa.
