Lee Tamahori has passed away at the age of 75.

Lee Tamahori, the influential New Zealand filmmaker behind Once Were Warriors, has died at 75, confirmed by his family who noted his peaceful passing at home. A champion of Māori talent, Tamahori's legacy includes iconic films and a commitment to storytelling rooted in identity. His last film, The Convert, was released in 2023. A memorial service is set for November 9 in Auckland.
