At 22K ha, road projects led to largest forest diversion since 2020: Centre

Road projects have caused significant forest area diversion, totaling 22,233.44 hectares since 2020, according to the Union environment ministry’s recent report in Rajya Sabha. This is part of 17,766 environmental clearances granted over five years. The government plans four major projects in Great Nicobar, requiring 166.10 sq.km, while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
