Centre accepts sending 'face consequence' notice to Twitter for not blocking URLs amid farmers' agitation
The Indian government has admitted to serving Twitter a notice with a 'significant consequences' warning for failing to take down 167 URLs during the farmers' protests in 2020 and 2021. The government denied threatening to carry out raids or shut down Twitter's office during the protests. The government stated that it issued a notice to Twitter on June 27, 2022, giving the company an opportunity to comply, and Twitter subsequently complied with all blocking directions issued under the Information Technology Act. The government also denied requesting users' data from social media accounts.
