The Orissa high court has awarded Rs 20 lakh compensation to the widow of an undertrial prisoner who died in custody due to medical negligence, highlighting severe violations of constitutional rights. The court found that jail authorities failed to provide adequate treatment for the prisoner's chronic diabetes, leading to his deteriorating health and subsequent death.
