SC notes high pendency in lower courts during Lakhimpur case trial
The Supreme Court emphasized the urgent need for additional courts and judges to address the overwhelming backlog of cases, particularly highlighted by the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case involving Ashish Mishra, where one judge is managing 789 trials. The court allowed Mishra a family visit while noting 36 witnesses have testified, with 85 pending. Eight people were killed in the incident.
