Sub-inspector awarded for serving in Maoist-hit Gadchiroli
Now posted at Panvel taluka police station, Sunil Shivaji Gurav bagged the prestigious DG insignia award for his outstanding services
When 31-year-old police sub-inspector Sunil Shivaji Gurav was posted at Gadchiroli, every day was a challenge.

“I was posted in Gadchiroli from August 2014 to September 2017. During the tenure, I encountered three attacks from Maoists. Four Maoists surrendered to me,” Gurav said.
“During an exchange of fire in 2015, I was injured. A bullet hit my right leg. Thankfully, the injury was not a major one and I recovered soon,” he said.
Now posted at Panvel taluka police station, Gurav bagged the prestigious DG insignia award for his outstanding services. Gurav was selected for this honour for his contributions to the anti-Maoist operations in Gadchiroli district for three years.
Gurav was the only police officer from Navi Mumbai police commissionerate who got this award this year. Police commissioner Sanjay Kumar handed over the award at CBD Belapur.
Gurav joined the police department five years ago. He was transferred to Panvel Taluka police station in September 2017.
“I am grateful to receive this honour from the police chief on Independence Day,” he said.
