Several countries moved to seal off their borders amid growing uncertainty around the virulence of the Omicron variant and its ability to dodge existing vaccines.
The new strain of Covid-19, the Omicron variant, was first reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) from South Africa on November 24. Now, it has popped up in several other countries including Australia, Italy and Britain. More than 50 countries were reportedly implementing travel measures aimed at potentially delaying the import of Omicron as of November 28, the WHO said.(HT File Photo)
