Tony Allen arrest: Ex-Memphis Grizzlies star booked on drug charges; First details

Ex-NBA star Tony Allen was arrested in Poinsett County, Arkansas, after police found a packet of marijuana on him during a traffic stop on I-555.

Allen was found possessing a packet of marijuana after officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 555 earlier on Wednesday. He was in the passenger seat of the car being driven by an individual identified as William Hatton, Sheriff Kevin Molder of Poinsett County said.

Deputies reportedly discovered drug paraphernalia and a cigarette pack in the seat pocket next to where Allen was seated. Inside the pack, they found a clear wrapper containing what appeared to be cocaine.

Allen and Hatton were both charged with possessing under two grams of meth or cocaine, as well as less than four ounces of marijuana. Hatton faces drug paraphernalia possession and improper lane change charges.

Allen is a former NBA shooting guard best known for his time with the Memphis Grizzlies. Born in Chicago in 1982, he played college basketball at Oklahoma State and helped the Boston Celtics win the 2008 NBA Championship. Nicknamed “The Grindfather,” he was part of Memphis’s “Grit and Grind” era.
