Surging satellite numbers threaten to dazzle even space telescopes
A recent study warns that the rapidly increasing number of satellites, projected to reach up to half a million by 2040, poses significant risks to both ground-based and space telescopes. Already, Hubble could see a third of its images affected, while newer telescopes like SPHEREx and ARRAKIHS may suffer up to 96% contamination. Solutions include improved satellite design and international regulation efforts.
