The US has officially ceased penny production, ending a 232-year tradition. Minted for the last time in Philadelphia, the decision follows rising costs, as each penny now costs nearly four cents to produce. President Trump initiated the halt in February, citing wastefulness. Introduced in 1793, the penny's practical use has diminished significantly over time.
