Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney highlighted “progress” in rebuilding ties with India and strengthening partnerships across the Indo-Pacific, stressing Ottawa’s intent to reduce its economic reliance on the United States amid renewed tariff disputes with Washington. Speaking after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Carney cited new deals in Asia and a turning point in relations with China. Multiple Canadian ministers recently engaged with India to restore high-level dialogue. Carney emphasized that diversifying partnerships, especially in Asia, is crucial for Canada’s future economic growth as relations with the U.S. remain uncertain.
