Cheetahs back in India: IFS officer explains how Asiatic big cats went extinct

  • Cheetahs are finally roaming Indian forests, seven decades after they went extinct. The Indian government had also initiated a project to bring back Cheetahs in the 1960s and 1970s but the plan wasn't successful. The Indian government had even reached out to Iran for Asiatic Cheetahs but had to cancel its decision. In a cautionary tale, an IFS officer has explained why Cheetahs went extinct in 1952.
