Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged the United Nations to intervene and assume its role following US President Donald Trump’s designation of Venezuela’s government as a “foreign terrorist organization” and the imposition of an oil blockade. Speaking from Mexico City, Sheinbaum emphasized Mexico’s commitment to non-intervention and peaceful conflict resolution, offering her country as a potential venue for dialogue between the US and Venezuela. She highlighted the ongoing tensions, including recent US attacks on alleged drug boats near Venezuelan waters. She also noted strengthened US-Mexico security cooperation to counter drone attacks, fuel theft, and organized crime, stressing diplomacy over confrontation.
