The Nepal government has announced a ban on Chinese social media app TikTok for “encouraging hate speech”. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting, reported The Kathmandu Post, but it’s not clear from when the ban will be in force. In June 2020, India had banned TikTok over national security concerns. There have been growing calls in the United States too, to ban TikTok over allegations of the social media company compromising sensitive user data.
