A Bangladesh court on November 17 sentenced ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity.

China has stated that the death sentence given to former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for "crimes against humanity" is Bangladesh's "internal affair," declining further comment. The verdict, delivered in absentia, also sentenced former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death, while another co-accused received a five-year prison term. Hasina has been in India since fleeing Bangladesh amid protests.
