Japan issued a tsunami advisory for Iwate prefecture following a Magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck offshore at 5:03 pm local time on Sunday, according to the USGS. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of potential tsunami waves reaching up to one metre (three feet) high. Further details are expected as the situation develops in the northern Pacific region.
