Ludhiana: 2,500 cops to keep vigil on city’s Dussehra festivities
With Dussehra events being held at no less than 25 locations — including 10 prominent locations including Daresi Ground, Dugri, Hambran Road, Rajguru Nagar, Upkar Nagar, Jamalpur and Chandigarh Road — police presence is being viewed as crucial to ensure visitors’ safety
Police have put in place stringent security measures to ensure proper vigil during the Dussehra festivities, with over 2,000 personnel set to be deployed on the ground on Tuesday.

With Dussehra events being held at no less than 25 locations — including 10 prominent locations including Daresi Ground, Dugri, Hambran Road, Rajguru Nagar, Upkar Nagar, Jamalpur and Chandigarh Road — police presence is being viewed as crucial to ensure visitors’ safety.
The 2,000-personnel strong force will include two units from the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) deployed across the city.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, Operations) Sameer Verma emphasised that security has been significantly tightened across the city. ADCPs, assistant commissioners of police (ACP), and station house officers have been instructed to maintain vigilance in their respective areas. Besides setting up special check posts throughout the city, patrolling teams have been asked to increase vigil.
He assured the people that fool proof security cover had already been put in place in the city. He said any kind of laxity in this task would be dealt with strictly.
Meanwhile, police teams conducted anti-sabotage checks at market areas, Dussehra grounds, malls, bus stands, railway stations, and other locations in the lead-up to the festivities.
A comprehensive cordon and search operation led by assistant commissioner of police (ACP, Civil Lines) Jasroop Kaur Bath was also carried out at the Amar Shaheed Sukhdev Interstate Bus Terminal. The operation was aimed at maintaining strict vigilance and preventing any potential untoward incidents. During the operation, passengers’ belongings were thoroughly checked, and several vehicles were inspected.
Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu, meanwhile, held meetings with the gazetted rank officials at the celebration sites, directing them to ensure round-the-clock patrolling at the locations. He said police teams and PCR staff have been monitoring the situation in these areas keeping in view the high expected footfall.
Additionally, police officers will be present in civvies at the fairs and market areas to effectively curb snatchings and thefts.
To manage traffic flow on the evening of Dussehra, traffic police personnel have been stationed at all prominent city intersections.
