Punjab police launch ‘Hauli Chalo’ campaign to curb tractor-trolley mishaps
The campaign was flagged off by special DGP (Traffic and Road Safety) AS Rai, who said that 30,000 reflector stickers will be affixed to tractor-trolleys across 144 SSF routes
The Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF) of Punjab Police’s Traffic and Road Safety Wing launched the ‘Hauli Chalo’ sticker campaign on Friday from Bhago Majra toll plaza on the NH-5 (Mohali–Chandigarh) highway. The campaign was flagged off by special DGP (Traffic and Road Safety) AS Rai, who said that 30,000 reflector stickers will be affixed to tractor-trolleys across 144 SSF routes, covering nearly 4,100 km of major road stretches in the first phase. The initiative is supported by Yara India and implemented by the SSF.
Rai said that 2,048 road accidents involving tractor-trolleys were reported in the state between 2017 and 2022, resulting in 1,569 deaths, primarily of farmers. These accounted for 5–6% of total road accident fatalities in the state during that period. He added that the campaign aims to reduce such tragedies by improving the visibility of tractor-trolleys, especially during early morning and late evening hours, and raising road safety awareness.
Rai further said that road accident fatalities have declined in 2024, particularly deaths occurring within 24 hours of accidents.
The ‘Hauli Chalo’ campaign is being launched simultaneously across all SSF units in Punjab.
