6 dead, several injured in Raipur steel plant tragedy, more feared trapped

The incident occurred at the Godavari Ispat Ltd facility located in the Siltara industrial area.

At least six workers were killed and five others injured after a structure collapsed at a private steel plant in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on Friday, police said, adding that five more people are feared trapped.

The incident took place at the Godavari Ispat Ltd plant in the Siltara industrial area on the outskirts of the city. A rescue operation is underway, Raipur superintendent of police (SP) Lal Ummed Singh said.

Six workers have died, and five others were injured in the mishap. Around five more people are feared trapped inside,” Singh added.

The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment, while police and local administration teams are carrying out rescue efforts at the site, a police officer said.
