Gunmen storm Patna hospital, kill murder convict on parole
Chandan was receiving treatment on parole when the attack occurred. Police are investigating and searching for the attackers.
Five unidentified gunmen shot dead a murder convict inside a private hospital in Bihar’s capital, Patna, on Thursday.
The man was admitted to the hospital's ICU, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The deceased, Chandan, a resident of the state’s Buxar district, was convicted in a murder case. While he was serving his term at Beur Jail, he had gone to the hospital for treatment on parole, PTI quoted Patna (central) SP Diksha as saying.
The SP also said police received information around 7.30 am on Thursday that a man had been shot by gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna.
A case has been registered against the culprits, and an investigation is underway, the SP said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab those behind the chilling crime.
Prima facie, it appears that old rivalry might be the reason behind the murder, the SP added.
"Criminals, protected by the government, shot at a patient admitted to a Patna hospital. Is anyone safe in Bihar? Did such an incident happen in Bihar before 2005, during the RJD's rule?" party leader Tejashwi Yadav argued as he wrote on his official X handle.
Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, an independent Lok Sabha MP, hailing from the state's Purnea area, also alleged that the grievous crime has exposed the Nitish Kumar government completely.
"Law and order have completely collapsed in the state. I would demand the imposition of President's rule when I meet the governor. Criminals are being killed on the basis of their castes," he argued.
Tejashwi Yadav visited the hospital where the crime occurred earlier today, but was barred from entering the premises by the deployed security personnel, said a PTI report.
Another murder bloodstained Patna today
In other news, a man was killed by unidentified men outside his residence in Patna's Shahpur today, said police.
According to a police report, the deceased has been identified as Shubham alias Bunty.
"A police team reached the spot and found that the man had been killed outside his house by some unidentified persons. The deceased was attacked by sharp-edged objects," the officer said.
Although the reason behind the crime has not been known yet, a probe is on and the police are looking for the accused.
Shubham's body was sent for a post-mortem examinations, and further investigation is on", Patna City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh told PTI.
