Italian luxury brand Prada has partnered with Maharashtra's LIDCOM and Karnataka's LIDKAR to create 2,000 limited-edition sandals inspired by Kolhapuri Chappals, drawing objections from Maharashtra artisans who feel unfairly sidelined. The deal follows previous cultural appropriation controversies, with Kolhapuri Chappals receiving a Geographical Indication tag in 2019 to protect their cultural significance.
