Reacting to Team India's victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”
The comments came as India clinched the 2025 Asia Cup title with a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in a dramatic final. The contest swung back and forth before the lower middle order produced a decisive effort to guide the team home in a memorable finish.
India’s Asia Cup victory over Pakistan came against a backdrop of strained ties, with memories of the May airstrikes on Pakistan’s terror infrastructure still fresh. The military confrontation had left relations tense, and many fans, along with Opposition leaders, questioned the idea of playing Pakistan on the cricket field while diplomatic hostilities lingered.
However, Sunday’s win seemed to cut through the skepticism, as celebrations swept across the country.
The final, played under high tension amid off-field events in the lead-up, saw Suryakumar Yadav’s men rise to the occasion. Tilak Varma emerged as the standout performer, his composed half-century and vital partnerships with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube steering India to their second T20I Asia Cup crown and ninth overall.
While talking to news agency ANI, one fan in Delhi said, “Pehle humne Sindoor lagaya tha aur ab Tilak lagaya hai. (First we applied sindoor, and now Tilak).”
The high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash at Dubai had kept fans on edge, with momentum swinging both ways before India sealed a memorable finish.
