Scarce rain, snow spark dry winter in north-west Indian states
North-west India is facing one of its driest winters on record, with an 84.8% rainfall deficiency in December and 84% in early January, leading to drought-like conditions across the Western Himalayas. Meteorologists attribute this to western disturbances bypassing the region. The lack of snowfall threatens agriculture, water resources, and tourism, particularly in ski resorts.
