Australia mass shooting: Multiple shots fired in Sydney's Bondi Beach, Israel seeks strong response

Published on Dec 14, 2025 04:53 PM IST

Panic erupted at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach when gunfire tore through a Hanukkah gathering of around 2,000 people, sending families and tourists scrambling for cover across the sand. Witnesses describe “at least ten people on the ground” as a ten‑minute burst of shots left multiple dead and at least 16 rushed to nearby hospitals. Two suspects are in custody, but police say their operation is still active and the motive remains unclear. As Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calls the scenes “shocking and distressing,” Israel’s president is already urging Australia to confront a possible antisemitic threat.
