President Trump clashed with NBC’s Yamiche Alcindor outside the White House after his controversial “war” meme about Chicago triggered backlash from Illinois leaders. Trump had posted, “I love the smell of deportations in the morning” and “Chicago is about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR,” following his decision to rename the Department of Defense. Criticized by Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson for “threatening to go to war with an American city,” Trump told reporters, “We’re not going to war—we’re going to clean up our cities,” doubling down on plans to send federal troops to combat crime while dismissing accusations of authoritarianism as “fake news”.
