Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning warned that Japanese “right‑wing forces” are trying to break free of the post‑war Peace Constitution and push the country “down the path of militarism,” and said Tokyo’s actions risk disaster for the region. She also linked the row to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments suggesting a Taiwan contingency could trigger Japanese military involvement, arguing that such “erroneous” remarks undermine the basis for China–Japan–South Korea trilateral cooperation and hollow out Japan’s stated adherence to the One‑China policy.
