Airport immigration staff blocked President Gotabaya's exit to safety abroad. Lankan president was stuck in his own country in a humiliating airport. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa wanted to fly to Dubai. The President, who enjoys immunity from arrest, wanted to fly out before quitting. Immigration officers refused to go to the VIP suite to stamp Gotabaya's passport. Fearing flyers' anger, Gotabaya insisted he'd not go through public facilities. The President & his wife spent the night at a military base next to the airport. In all, the President & his wife missed four United Arab Emirates-bound flights. A safe exit abroad would've eliminated the chances of post-resignation detention.
