At the UN General Assembly, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva delivered a scathing critique of the UN Security Council’s “tyranny of the veto,” condemning its repeated failure to stop bloodshed in Gaza and denouncing what he called genocide against the Palestinian people. Lula declared that the veto mechanism sabotages global peace efforts, allows atrocities to continue unchecked, and blocks Palestinian statehood.
