Diplomatic confusion deepened over the planned Trump-Putin summit in Budapest as conflicting signals emerged from Washington and Moscow. Russian officials, including Putin aide Kirill Dmitriev and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, insisted that preparations for the meeting are ongoing and accused U.S. media of "distorting" reports to undermine the summit. However, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he doesn't want a "wasted meeting" if no meaningful deal can be reached, while a White House official told the New York Post the summit was cancelled after Putin rejected Trump's peace offer.
