During PM Modi's visit to the U.S., an agreement between India and the U.S to jointly build fighter jet engines is almost complete. To produce engines for the Tejas light-combat aircraft, Massachusetts-based General Engine would collaborate with the government-owned HAL. The last major acquisition was done on the eve of then-U.S President Donald Trump’s visit to India.
