On Cam: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Arrested From Residence Over Martial Law Decree

Published on Jan 15, 2025 01:22 PM IST

In a second attempt by law enforcement agencies, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested from his residence on January 15. Yoon’s arrest comes after he suddenly declared a martial law in South Korea in December 2024. Hours before his arrest, he released a video slamming the probe against him saying, “ the law in this country has completely collapsed”. Yoon is wanted for questioning in multiple probes related to the martial law decree including for leading an insurrection. This arrest by Corruption Investigation Office allows the agency to hold Yoon for 48 hours, following which it will have to apply for a fresh warrant for further detention. After declaring martial law, Yoon was impeached after the Parliament, including some from his own party voted in favour of the move.
