RSF turns on its own? ‘Butcher of El Fasher’ arrested after murder livestreams shock Sudan

The arrest of Abu Lulu is seen as part of the RSF’s attempt to distance itself from atrocities committed in the Darfur city of El-Fasher, which its forces seized on October 26 after an 18-month siege. According to the Sudan Doctors Network, at least 1,500 civilians have been killed since the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) withdrew and the RSF swept through the city. Abu Lulu has become a grim symbol of Sudan’s descent into brutality since the conflict between the RSF and SAF erupted in April 2023.
