Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney praised Volodymyr Zelensky’s leadership and said the overnight “barbaric” Russian attack on Kyiv shows why allies must keep standing with Ukraine to create the conditions for a “just and lasting peace” and true reconstruction. He announced a new 2.5‑billion‑dollar Canadian economic assistance package designed to unlock additional financing from the IMF, World Bank and EBRD, alongside ongoing military support, and said Canada would hold a bilateral meeting with Zelensky followed by a virtual session with a “coalition of the willing.” Zelensky thanked Carney for Canada’s backing and said Russia had launched more than 500 drones plus dozens of missiles in the latest strike, calling it “Russia’s answer” to Ukrainian peace efforts and proof that Vladimir Putin “doesn’t want peace” and remains “a man of war.”
