Houthi drone strike near Israeli Airport, flight operations suspended: Officials
Tel Aviv said the Houthis launched multiple drones, some of which were intercepted outside of Israel.
Flights were halted at a southern Israeli airport after a drone launched from Yemen by the Houthis rebels struck near the area, AP reported, citing Israeli officials.
Israel said the Houthis launched multiple drones, some of which were intercepted outside of Israel. At least one hit near the Ramon International Airport near the southern Israeli city of Eilat.
"A short while ago, the IAF (Israeli air force) intercepted three UAVs that made their way from Yemen," the military said in a statement, adding two were downed before entering Israeli airspace. It did not specify what happened to the third.
The conflict between Israel and Yemen escalated after Tel Aviv assassinated the Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi, along with 11 other senior officials, in air strikes two weeks ago.
Following their leader's assassination, the Houthi rebels vowed to escalate their attacks against Israel as well as on vessels navigating through a crucial Red Sea shipping route off Yemen.
