North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards the east, South Korea's military said on Wednesday, without providing more details, Reuters reported.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the launch was towards the sea off North Korea's east coast.
A brief statement from South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff gave no further details, such as how far the weapon flew.
According to the Associated Press, North Korea usually test-launches missiles in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, causing no damage in neighbouring countries.
Wednesday's launch comes days before South Korea is set to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference, which will be attended by US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other world leaders next week.
Earlier, North Korea last launched ballistic missiles on May 8 when it fired multiple short-range missiles from its east coast.
