Now, Elon Musk backs Andrew Cuomo, shades Curtis, Zohran 'Mumduni or whatever'
Despite huge support, Andrew Cuomo was defeated by Zohran Mamdani in the June mayoral primary, making the American Muslim an icon among the youth.
Just ahead of the New York City mayoral election, Andrew Cuomo received a major endorsement from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. In a call for people to vote, Musk made his preference clear, tweeting: "Vote Cuomo."
Not only this, Musk advised against voting for Republican candidate Curtis Silwa, while also throwing shade on Zohran Mamdani. "Remember to vote tomorrow in New York! Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is," Musk wrote.
Zohran Mamdani is leading the charge in the NYC mayoral polls and may just become the first Muslim mayor in the United States. Despite huge support, Andrew Cuomo was defeated by Mamdani in the June mayoral primary, making the American Muslim an icon among the youth.
Cuomo's candidature was also marred by controversy, given his resignation from the post of New York mayor in 2021 amid sexual harassment allegations.
However, even as Mamdani remains a frontrunner in the race, some polls recently indicated that his lead narrowed down. A November 1 AtlasIntel poll showed Mamdani is leading with 40.6% support, followed by Andrew Cuomo at 34% and Curtis Sliwa at 24.1%.
According to New York Post, the 6.6 percentage points lead by Mamdani over Cuomo was his narrowest edge since July. Besides, the Suffolk University poll which gave Mamdani a lead by 20 points back in September, recently cut the lead down to just 10 points.
However, the same AtlasIntel poll on November 3 showed significant improvement in Mamdani's lead with 43.9% of the vote, followed by Cuomo at 39.4% and Sliwa at 15.5%.
The high-stakes New York City mayoral election is set for November 4 (US time). While most believe Mamdani will win, others think Cuomo can swing votes in this favour.
